Family owned and operated camps are increasingly rare and this gem which pioneered safaris into the Lower Zambezi offers personalised attention second to none. It’s no coincidence that Chiawa Camp was voted winner of The Safari Awards 'Best Safari Camp in Africa' 2011 and "Best Guiding Team in Africa" 2017.
Need To Know
Nine tented rooms with wifi, including a Safari Suite new in 2017, all on elevated timber decks with indoor and outdoor shower, his and hers wash basins, ball and claw bath tubs, king size bed (or super twins) with mosi nets and Egyptian cotton linens.
The 9th room or Safari Suite is ideal for couples and young families wanting extra luxury, space and privacy.
Safaris
Driving, walking, canoe/boat, angling and revolutionary approach to night drives utilising unique two spotlight approach minimising disturbance of wildlife whilst maximising photographic opportunity. Maximum six, but usually four, guests on any activity, Chiawa operates a modern and well-maintained fleet of vehicles and boats to ensure maximum flexibility and convenience. All guides are licensed and usually local.
Wildlife
Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, hyena, hippo, crocodile, impala, warthog, waterbuck, wild dog, serval, aardvark, pangolin and African wildcat. About 400 bird species can be seen in an incredibly varied and beautiful habitat (including river life).
Activities
Day & night game drives, walks, canoe trips, river safaris, catch and release fly-fishing, viewing/photographic hides. Visits to conservation projects can be arranged from camp.
Facilities
Swimming pool with shaded sun deck & sun loungers, 2 viewing hides including one with night vision equipment, library, restaurant, bar, room service, gym, mosquito nets, electricity, ceiling fans, free wifi in rooms (but not public areas) and 2 viewing decks overlooking Zambezi River.
Accommodation
Total 9 ‘Superior’ safari tents, including 1 Safari Suite, all with free wifi.
