Run by Robin Pope Safaris, Tena Tena is a truly wild camp that’s ideal for a walking safari. Epitomising Robin Pope’s philosophy, it aims to provide an authentic and adventurous safari while keeping you close to nature. Tena Tena is as far removed from the outside world as it gets. Tena Tena is located in the remote Nsefu sector of South Luangwa National Park. It sits under a thick grove of mahogany trees and has views over the Luangwa River. There are just six tents, each with prospects and verandas facing the Luangwa River, where hippos and elephants bathe. The tents are cosy and comfortable, featuring king-size beds, locally made straw matting for the floor, and open-air bathrooms. Split over two levels, Tena Tena’s main area is really just a tented roof, supported by rustic poles and tree branches. However, underneath the roof there is a stunning dining area, a large wooden bar, and a romantic seating area filled with colourful cushions – just perfect for watching the sun set. As Tena Tena operates in a virtually private walking area, a walking activity is a must-do here. The camp’s excellent guiding, together with the park’s incredible diversity of wildlife, provides a fascinating experience. This is the most adventurous camp that Robin Pope operates in the valley – it’s a superbly thrilling option. As well as walking, guests can go on guided game drives and night drives.
